Since it was founded 70 years ago, Asel Art Supply has grown from one store in Dallas to six retail locations throughout the state of Texas, a warehouse, and a college bookstore in Lubbock.Asel Art Supply, Inc. was founded in 1951 by Kenny Asel, who was joined by his brother Herb Asel shortly thereafter. The brothers had both started in the paint business after serving in WWII and looked for a way to better serve the artists from the student level to the professional level. They opened the doors of their business in January 1951 in Dallas, Texas. In 1973, due to health reasons, the brothers sold the business to a group of investors, one of whom is still with the business. As the business grew, the silent investors sold their shares back to the company. In 1987 an ESOP trust was formed and Asel Art Supply became an employee owned business. The business continues today to be employee owned and family operated.
