Keith Dickie enrolled in welding school in 1973 at North Seattle Community College. Hoping to learn how to fix a damaged 1958 Ford Fairlane. While attending school he began to build metal sculptures for walls and tables. This type of artwork was very rewarding, but did not pay the bills.

In 1974 Keith found a job at an ornamental iron shop in Lynnwood, building custom iron railings, gates and fencing he found it very educational and challenging. Having learned all he could working for someone else, Keith decided to open his own company and in May of 1976 he opened Decorative Iron Inc. Building plant stands, fireplace screens and a few railings quickly grew into more work than one person could handle. A commercial 1,000 sq foot shop on Bothell Everett Hwy was leased and one employee was hired in 1978. With home building on the rise in the late 1970’s more employees and a larger shop were needed, in 1980 Decorative Iron moved again. With the help of quality employees and Keith’s desire to build the best iron railings in the northwest, the business continued to grow.
By the mid to late 1980’s Decorative Iron was working on some of the largest custom homes being built in the Bellevue/Seattle area. Working closely with both high quality builders and architects we were able to build a strong and lasting customer base.
