Ric Straus started the company now known as EARTHWORKS Paving Contractors, Inc., in 1977 as Ric’s 4x4 Trucking. At that time Ric owned one 4 wheel drive dump truck (named Cornelius) and few hand tools. Ric and Cornelius did trucking, landscaping and site work with a can-do attitude.

In 1982 Ric met Jake Roulstone who introduced him to the heavy construction and asphalt industries. In 1983 Ric acquired a broken plate compactor; Ken Turnell repaired the plate and our first paving work began. Inexperienced but ambitious, they quickly learned many do’s and don’ts of the pavement industry and the fundamentals of good customer service.

In 1985, Ric and Stephanie registered the name EARTHWORKS for their company. They gradually purchased more equipment, hired employees and developed subcontractor relationships to help handle the increasing demand for their services.
