We are beginning a new study book on June 8th : Mindfulness in Plain English
by Bhante Gunaratana. This book is a clear discussion of aspects of
meditation, what gets in the way, and ways to deal with problems that arise.
It’s a good book for beginners as well as a nice refresher. If you have been
thinking about exploring meditation, this is a good time to join. Please email
Sara ([email protected]) to be added to the list.
This class includes both mindfulness meditation and learning about the
teachings of the Buddha. We generally begin with a meditation with brief
instructions, followed by a brief check-in from participants about their practice.
The teachings portion is a talk and discussion centering on the teachings of
the Buddha—his understanding of the causes of suffering and his practices to
ease our reactions to the challenges we face. The emphasis is how we can
use the teachings of the Buddha in our daily lives. We generally use a book
as the foundation of the discussion.
This class has been meeting on Zoom since the pandemic. We meet on the
second Tuesday, from 1-3 p.m. for meditation and teachings, and have added
a meeting on the fourth Tuesday for meditation and check-in. We welcome
new participants. If you think this would be of interest to you, please contact
Sara.
The class is facilitated by Sara Milnes, who has been practicing for 21 years
and has studied in several advanced programs on the Buddha’s teachings.
Please contact Sara at [email protected] if you have any questions or
want to be sent the Zoom link.
