Food and Beverage > Seafood
Fisherman have fished in and around Bodega Bay for centuries. Coast Miwok, Spanish, Russian, Mexican and most recently American fisherman have all earned a living fishing in the Bay.
Lucas Wharf, formerly known as the Lazio Dock, has long been a hub for local fisherman. Salmon, shrimp, rockfish, crabs and all other kinds of seafood would be caught in and around the Bay then processed on the Lazio dock.
James Lucas, his father Walter and brother Gary worked as commercial fisherman at the Lazio Dock, trawling for bottom fish and shrimp aboard their boat – the Silver Seas.
In 1976, after a string of successful seasons, the ‘Shrimp Kings’ – as the brothers came to be known – purchased the Lazio Dock. They began building the Lucas Wharf Restaurant in 1979, finishing construction in 1984.
The Lucas brothers ran the restaurant until 1993, when James purchased the restaurant with his wife Peggy, running the restaurant together until James’s tragic death in 2004.
Karen Parker purchased the restaurant from Peggy Lucas in 2019 after managing the restaurant under Peggy’s direction.
