Federal Way Health Foods”, a small storefront on Pacific Highway South in Federal Way, opened its doors on April 1, 1976. Offering friendly service and hard-to-find information on whole foods and natural products, owner Marlene Beadle was an instant success. They quickly outgrew the 1000 sq. ft. space and moved many more times over the next several years, changing the name to reflect Marlene’s ownership.
In 1989, Marlene’s Market & Deli settled into a storefront on the west end of Gateway Center Plaza just off the I-5 exit #143 in Federal Way.
In 1996, Marlene responded to public demand and opened a second store in Tacoma, also a success. Both stores thrived, and in 2004, the Federal Way store expanded once more, moving into its present two-story location at the east end of Gateway Center. Together, both locations employ over 100 people.
