In April of 1986, J.W. "Buck" McPherson and his wife Everene, owners of Buck's Crane Service, Inc., and their son Jim McPherson, owner of McPherson Excavating, joined forces to form a complete crane services consisting of truck cranes and crawler cranes, both hydraulic and conventional.
In later years McPherson added a line of hydraulic Long Reach Excavators with capacities up to 1.33 cubic yards and boom lengths reaching to 72’ horizontal. These machines in addition to their crane fleet are capable of dredging from land or water as well placing rip rap for levee maintenance as well as industrial applications in refineries, lakes, ponds, rivers and wild life areas as well as waste water treatment plants. Dragline, Clamshell, Pile Driving and Sauerman Dredging are also done with the conventional crane fleet.
Today McPherson is owned and operated by Jim McPherson and Ira Witcraft. They have added Stinger Cranes that pull semi flat bed trailers from 35’ to 45’, step decks and lowbeds. In addition to upgrades with their hydraulic truck cranes they have also added two All-Terrain Hydraulic cranes from 175 ton to 275 Ton. The new Grove GMK-5275 can reach up to 301’ with it’s on board main boom of 223’ & swing around bi folding fly. There are no other cranes in Northern California with main booms longer than 223’. With addition boom inserts the total tip height of the 275 Ton is 354 feet.
