Merchant Funeral Home was founded in 1898 by Henry R. Merchant. Henry was a furniture maker and a funeral director, as well as being the local coroner. The first funeral home was located in Asotin, Washington, 5 miles up the river from Clarkston. The original funeral home building was donated to the Asotin County Historical Society, and is currently in use as a museum of local history. Many of the orignal pieces of equipment used in the funeral home are on display in the museum.
