MercyFirst is a not-for-profit child welfare agency that has provided critical services to children and families in Brooklyn, Queens, Nassau and Suffolk County since 1894. Programs include preventive services, family foster care and adoption, group homes, mother-child residences, medical and mental health services, and specialized residential treatment programs for adolescents on its Syosset Campus. MercyFirst is accredited by the Council on Accreditation (COA) and is a sponsored ministry of the Sisters of Mercy. In 2009, MercyFirst became largest organization in country to receive Sanctuary Certification, a trauma-informed approach to working with abused children.
