Lessons involve learning music through learning to play the piano, along with several other activities. The most important advantage of private lessons is that the content can be tailored to each student’s interests and talents.

In the lessons we work on:

Technical skills on the piano – scales, arpeggios, chord progression, and more
Repertoire pieces on the piano – lesson books and supplemental pieces for beginners, pieces from all style periods for more advanced students
Sight reading – quickly learning pieces we haven’t seen before
Ear training – developing our ability to recognize and play back music by hearing it
Music Theory – understanding what’s going on in the music we are playing
Depending on the student’s interest and talents, we may also work on
Music Composition – writing pieces of our own
Lead sheets – learning to play contemporary music from chord symbols
