Minder Meats began in Kitsap County in 1943. The Minder's were sausage makers in Switzerland in the late 1800's. Alfred Minder immigrated to the US in 1890 to Bozeman, Montana, where he owned a farm, traded horses with the US Army and opened a meat market on Main Street. His oldest of 11 children, George, moved to Washington with his wife Janice in 1943, along with brother's John, Harold, Joe, and Jim, and opened Minder Brother's Meats on South Cambrian Avenue. In the late 1960's, George built up one of the most prestigious Black Angus Herds in the Pacific Northwest. At one time, numbering 200 head of Prime Registered Angus. With his heart failing, he sold most of his herd, some to the Stuart Anderson, head of the Black Angus
