The inspiration for opening Over the Fence in 1996 came from my passion for gardening and making my home into a comfortable sanctuary -- combined with the limitations of living in a small town on the Olympic Peninsula. There was nowhere to buy the things I needed.
Leaving my secure job at the school district and my regular paycheck, I stepped out with the idea for Over the Fence. I rented an overlooked vacant building on a quiet block downtown. My husband and three kids encouraged me to "go for it"! My goal was, and still is, to provide an inspiring environment, filled with unusual quality merchandise at the best possible prices.
Through traveling the world and building strong relationships with manufacturers, I became aware of the importance of supporting good working conditions and the environmental impact of what we sell at Over the Fence.
Our name 'Over the Fence' suggests reaching beyond boundaries, sharing ideas and growing. Over the years we've done just that. By 2007, we expanded into the old bar building next door, more than tripling our square footage. The bar cooler became the beloved card room. The outdoor footprint grew too, creating an inviting area featuring high-fired pottery, garden accessories and the best outdoor furniture.

By providing an inspiring, hands-on shopping experience, customers become friends. Our friendly, knowledgeable team works hard to maintain the original heart and soul of this brick-and-mortar store in downtown Sequim, WA.
