This class is a technical introduction to using Digital Audio Workstations (GarageBand) and Songwriting. Workstation curriculum includes subjects like project management, recording sound with a microphone, importing/editing loops and audio, sequencing/recording/editing melodic and harmonic elements, developing accompanying textures and chord progressions in the workstation, arranging common modern virtual instruments (Piano, Guitar, Bass, Drums, Synthesizer), applying basic digital audio effects to develop and mix a fully realized modern production, and much more!
In addition, students will also work on the craft of contemporary song forms. Emphasis is on identifying, transcribing, and deconstructing popular music devices and applying those techniques towards the students original work. Theoretical constructs include creating/developing melodic themes, bass lines, harmonic progressions and integrating those elements into modern song structures: Intro, Verse, Chorus, Bridge, Breakdown, Climactic ending.
The goal for students is to develop and present their projects by the end of the 7 week course.
