heir fight was very difficult because they did not live in a democratic country. Many will find it difficult to understand that a person can actually die over a pair of jeans…
This story starts in Soviet Union:
In 1957 during the World Youth Festival in Moscow, young Russian boys and girls were shocked by the new kind of trousers their Western friends were all wearing, and became very envious. By the 1960′s the youth of Soviet Union began demanding these American blue jeans that they had begun to see in Hollywood films as well. Although jeans were frowned upon by Soviet officials as symbols of decadence and Western imperialism, the few products available had to be restocked almost daily. Jeans remained a coveted but forbidden capitalist item in the Soviet Union for the next 30 years until the Berlin Wall fell in 1989, and Russian citizens could buy “real” (not black market) jeans for the very first time.
