Farming > Marine Farming

In the fall of 1982, Shoreline Marina was near completion. People who had been given slip assignments were beginning to move in. Being friendly boat owners, they wandered dock and met their new neighbors. They discussed the lack of a local yacht club with their dock mates and tossed the idea out to try and recruit people to see if people were interested. They were.

In the early years regular quarterly meetings were all over Long Beach. Dues were $25 a month. By the end of 1983, there were now 1800 slips in the marina and Shoreline Yacht Club had 642 members on the roster and office space acquired upstairs in a Shoreline Village building near Parkers Lighthouse Restaurant.

In 1995 a group of the Club’s officers, directors and members decided the time had come to seriously pursue the acquisition of a proper clubhouse facility. Funding was committed and it took a full year to complete the construction phase of the project. The Club took possession of the building at the end of June 2003.

Today

After 39 years, the club remains primarily a volunteer club, however staffing of the galley, bar, office and daily maintenance makes it a more enjoyable place to relax. Members are encouraged to become involved in organizing and promoting cruises, races and social events.

The facility has a commanding view of the harbor and the Queen Mary which members are able to enjoy almost around the clock. The bar and galley are open 5 days a week with a casual menu on Tuesday and Thursday, plated or buffet service on Friday and Saturday and a fabulous Sunday brunch.
