When Malachy and Margaret McGettrick purchased the building that now houses Sitric House & Home nearly a decade ago, the intention was to provide a showroom for Malachy’s remodeling business.

But following a remodel of the ranch-style home, their daughters Paula and Kelly envisioned a supplementary use for the space.

“After [Malachy renovated], the girls decided to make it into a gift boutique,” Margaret said. “So the store has kind of evolved.”

An homage to the family’s surname in Gaelic, Sitric House & Home offers home décor, kitchenwares, jewelry and body products, as well as remodeling services. The gift boutique end of the business is run primarily by Paula and Kelly, with occasional part-time help provided by Margaret.

The McGettricks emigrated from Ireland to Corpus Christi in the 1970s, Margaret said. Malachy brought his remodeling business to Austin once his children enrolled at the University of Texas. To build his customer base, he opened the showroom in 2008, one month before the infamous stock market crash.
