Speech therapy is beneficial for any child with difficulty speaking or understanding language. Kids who have language difficulties can benefit socially, emotionally, and academically from speech therapy. For kids with reading difficulties such as dyslexia, speech therapy targets their ability to hear and distinguish specific sounds in words, which then improves reading comprehension skills and encourages kids to read. Speech therapy is especially beneficial when kids begin early in life (ages 1-3). In one study, 70% of preschool-aged children with language difficulties who went through speech therapy showed improvement in language skills.
