Sunset Septic Tank Company, Inc. was founded in 1941 by Joe & Dorothy Harwood. At that time they started pumping septic tanks, building septic tanks, drain tile, and many other pre-cast concrete items. Joe also did concrete flat work and redi-mix concrete. After World War II there was a great building boom for the soldiers coming home from the war. In these years the company had over 20 employees and geared toward building septic tanks, installing systems and doing repairs. Over the next 40 years the company focused on installing systems for new homes.
Gary Harwood worked in the business all through his childhood. When he was 15 he often would go out with the crew and even drive the dump truck. Gary worked summers and weekends until he went to college. After he graduated college he served 2 years in the United States Marine Corps. Gary joined the company full time in 1973.
Brent Harwood worked in the business growing up and summers during high school and college. He joined the company full time in 2000 and became a Master Installer.
