Surpass was founded by Irwin J. Smith, a chemist and Harry B. Smith, a textile dyer and was incorporated in New York State in 1914. Operation began at that time in Albany, NY, to provide bleaching agents, dyes and industrial chemicals to the text tile industry.
Various US and foreign patents on the use of oxygen and hypochlorite compounds for cellulose bleaching became the foundation of our growth in related industrial areas. Diversification from a specialty manufacturer to contract formulator and distributor of industrial and water treatment chemicals necessitated the addition of our Bridge Street plant in 1965...
