XIT Rural Telephone Cooperative, Inc. was established in 1951 and was one of the first cooperatives to provide rural telephone service to the Northwest Texas Panhandle.

Back then service was limited to Dallam, Hartley and Sherman counties; the area's population was limited and the financial outlook of XIT was unsure.

Since then our coverage area has expanded, population of the Panhandle has increased, technology has advanced and XIT Rural Telephone Cooperative, Inc. has exploded into what is now XIT Communications. We still serve our rural customers and have expanded to include residential customers and businesses.
Our service area is currently made up of the Dallam, Hartley, Oldham, Deaf Smith, Sherman and Moore counties in the Texas Panhandle. We have an approximate home coverage area of 7,500 square miles . Our company headquarters are in Dalhart, and we have several conveniently located Customer Care Centers in Dalhart, Dumas, Stratford and Hereford.

XIT Rural Telephone Cooperative, Inc. is proud to employee over 60 people and serve approximately 9,000 customers.
